Blue Moon Magic!

As mentioned in my Vedic New Year blog, “… there is a very special and auspicious event happening in one of the Vedic calendars, from August 18 to September 16, called Bhadrapad Adhika Masa, which means that there will be two lunar months in a row when the Sun will not transit to another sign, and when the New Moon will occur twice in the sidereal sign of Leo. This happens because of the difference between the solar and lunar calendars (365 versus 354 days per year), which means that every ~2.5 years, an extra (intercalary) lunar month needs to be added. During this fortunate time of the Nandana Year, special prayers and pujas are performed by the Hindu priests, thus enhancing harmony between the spiritual and material worlds.”

The two new moons that occur in sidereal Leo in Bhadrapad Adhika Masa occurred Aug. 17 and the next will be Sept. 15. In this cycle, we will also experience a Blue Moon, when the Full Moon takes place twice in one month: first was Aug. 1 in sidereal Capricorn, and the next is Aug. 31 in sidereal Aquarius. In pagan traditions, the Blue Moon is said to give an extra bonus of magical energy to the month, and especially an extra bonus of the Divine Mother’s blessings as the Moon is connected to the Goddess energies.

This is especially true on the August 31 lunation because the shaman-centaur Chiron conjoins the Moon in the mysterious nakshatra of Shatabhisak, which is associated with healing and occult mastery. This conjunction can activate healing of old emotional wounds; stimulate a deepening awareness of our true purpose; and, bring us closer to our spirit guides and teachers. It is recommended to take a 20-minute Moon bath to soak in the magic and mystery of the Goddess and this can help your higher self to manifest. In other words, it’s time to make Blue Moon magic!

The Moon is not really blue…though I like the term because blue is a healing color…here’s a link to an article that explains the origin and history of the term “Blue Moon”: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/48814398/ns/technology_and_science-science/#.UD0ie6O0KSo
